Corrections Defense

Each attorney at Robles, Rael, & Anaya is uniquely familiar with the issues facing jail facilities, and have defended claims ranging from pro se cases to class-action lawsuits.  Our corrections defense lawyers are knowledgeable of the policies and procedures required of corrections facilities, and have advised officials and conducted training programs at major detention centers across New Mexico.

Our lawyers have extensive experience defending governmental entities against claims by inmates regarding conditions of confinement and jail operations. As a result, our firm is able to anticipate the validity of claims brought by inmates while providing guidance to prison officials about their compliance with constitutional requirements.  Our experience ranges from the quality of food served by the facility, to the use of force against inmates by corrections officials and altercations between inmates.

In addition, Robles, Rael & Anaya attorneys have a thorough understanding of the Prison Litigation Reform Act (PLRA) and have used it to successfully defended governmental entities against inmate claims. Our attorneys are also able to utilize the PLRA offensively to discourage unnecessary, and often expensive, litigation by prisoners.  Robles, Rael & Anaya attorneys also have expertise with uniform standards for jail and detention center administration, safety, and security.
